Septuagesim Sunday: Burying the Alleluia

After reading about burying the Alleluia on Septuagesima Sunday HERE at Fr. Z's blog, I thought we should do the same.

I printed up a decorated Alleluia and the chant that our Traditional Latin Mass Society had emailed out. "Benedicamus Domino Alleluia, Alleluia - Deo Gratias Alleluia, Alleluia"  (which I did sing, but didn't have much of an audience (which was good).
While I went out for a walk, Frodo (I believe) used the skid loader to move a round bale to get to some ground that isn't frozen beneath it so that Merry could dig me a hole for our Alleluia.
By the time I got back and went to bury our Alleluia (and the chant I stuck in there as it just seemed like a good thing to keep the Alleluia company until Easter), the hole had filled up with water.  Must have oozed in. So I believe it would be more correct to say that we drowned the Alleluia, rather than buried it.

When Merry went to cover it with dirt the lovely disposable plastic container flipped over (it did not want to be drowned).

Ever try to drown an Alleluia? It is not easy.  This was suppose to be nice and sacred but I'm afraid I got the giggles as it popped back up out of the ground.
 Finally!
If you would like to see a lovely way to bury the Alleluia, visit Fr. Z's blog HERE for pictures from his burying of the Alleluia. They had a lovely, probably very, very sacred service prior to a Solemn High Mass. We are so blessed to have Fr. Z in our diocese!

In the meantime, Kili started to cry and sulk because he didn't want us to bury the Alleluia.  (Seriously?) I thought it was so comical that I wanted to get a picture but he wasn't cooperative and kept running off. Guess he just needed a little time to get the idea we won't be singing Alleluia until Easter.

It was about this time that Poppy told him we'd get the Alleluia out when we get our Easter Baskets. That cheered him up immensely and he asked if we'd get the Alleluia out when Jesus rose from the dead and carried his banner. And then wanted to know what the banner had on it. I just said I supposed it said "Alleluia" (wasn't this suppose to be the buried word?)
Judging by the look on his face he thought he needed to inform me of the truth.  He promptly went and got a book to show me that it was a red cross.  Methinks I had better get a standard with a red cross by Easter or I might be in trouble.
Since Nineveh 90 starts tomorrow, the day after Septuagesima Sunday, we opted to celebrate "Fat Sunday" with brownie sundaes (Costco vanilla ice cream is the best ice cream let me tell you).  Galadriel so graciously made us homemade brownies and we topped with pralines and chocolate sauce.

This and That January 2017

No idea what the abominable snow toddler is trying to show me, but I am sure it is a magnificent treasure.
We took a field trip to a local fire station.  A friend of ours who does fire work gave a great tour.

I really want some of these (coat hook stations... not fireman gear) for a mud room.

Kili really, really, really liked the bells. I'm sure it has nothing to do with also really, really, really liking to make noise.

Marigold going in (or coming out) of a fire truck.
Kili was very enthralled with a body he found lying around.
He then wanted to point out that he found the legs, too.

A very much older fire truck.

 Another bell.

Our friend thought it would be a good idea to turn on all the fire truck lights....
.... and sound the alarm.  Yes, it was very, very loud.
Getting to try on an oxygen tank.
Kili thought it was very "heasy" (heavy)
Pippin clowning around with the O2 tank.
The firemen need to get their gear on in less than 2 minutes.  Our friend got his on in 1 minute 29 seconds (if I recall correctly) They don't mess around when it comes to saving lives.

Afterwards we went bowling. I thought I got more than 1 picture, but one picture I got.  Kili really likes bowling and seemingly has done all the proper actions. Not sure where he got that from.

The little girls wanted to play with my hair and gussied it up. They looked at it and thought it was so pretty. I looked at it and thought it was so gray.   Ho. Hum.
 Another Narnia play...

Marigold started "Puppy Dog Math" and is thrilled with it. Killi is stabbing a car?

I had to take one of the kids to the doctor's as I thought he had pneumonia (only bronchitis thankfully) but I thought the "boy and girl" jelly fish in the take were really neat. (Easily amused)

A local St. Vincent's had these awesome HUGE paintings like you'd see in a mansion.  Loved the one of the Angelus, just didn't love the price. Ouch! The frame even was amazing.   It was a good 4 or 5 inches thick all the way around.

Aragorn and I went out to dinner, thanks to a generous friend who gave us a gift certificate. Loved the door handle! (and the food was great, too!)

I took 4 of the boys to go hear the UW Varsity Band concert for school kids.  It was great.

We had great seats for their marching portion.  They went just inches away from us.
During the "chicken dance" song (which I do not find amusing though their rendition had me laughing quite a bit) this young man was playing his instrument (what is it called again?) upside down.  (this I did find amusing)
Can you guess why we had ringing in our ears for hours after the show?

So I had this great photo opportunity. All 3 of the stooges were standing on stumps of wood and it looked pretty nifty.  But when they saw me get my phone out to take a picture  they hurried to look like they had been working all the while.

Unfortunately we had a possum (oppossum) in one of our chicken nests and we didn't think to take a picture.  However, after Frodo took care of the possum, we did think to take a picture.  They aren't cute.  Country living.  Gotta love it!
