At the Fair

Some of the kids went to a local fair with a couple uncles and an aunt.

 I was beginning to wonder if it was bad hair feather day at the fair.

 A country bumpkin petting a cow is like a city dweller enjoying the scenery in Chicago.

 Getting slickered up on sugar and grease.  They did bring me home a deep fried oreo and some mini donuts.  I gained 5 pounds just holding the bag.

 I was only a little disappointed that they didn't bring home that great big pink monkey for our neighbor's garden.

 Only a little green at the gills.

 Now, I am not sure I know how many people think my children are over-sheltered, but tell me if you or your kids have ever seen this kind of production.  I scurried back under my rock for a few minutes after seeing this as I didn't care for the de-sheltering process.

 I think my kids just might turn out alright afterall, now that they've been exposed to things like this....!

 Not a great view but I heard any number of stories about people trying to catch pigs in mud.  I had to say "Enough already" as I hold Marigold during Mass and it isn't any different than mud wrestling a pig.

 And then they brought me home a pirate.

Homeschooling 2012-2013

There is still time for some changes to our homeschooling year but  I thought I'd post generally what we are doing for the up-coming-very-quickly homeschooling year.  I will have 8 in school-formal, 1 in pre-school-informal, and 2 into everything.

Religion:   Mother of Divine Grace (MODG) or Our Lady of Victory School (OLVS) which are both based on the Baltimore Catechism.

Math:  1 in Math-U-See, 1 in Saxon, 6 in Teaching Textbooks

English:  Easy Grammar, Editing, Meaningful Composition, Warriner's Grammar, Primary and Intermediate Language Lessons

Science:  More Birds, Apologia: Astronomy, Human Anatomy & Land Animals, MODG Highschool Syllabus

History & Geography:  MODG all levels
Language:  Rosetta Stone Castillian Spanish and Rosetta Stone Greek (Eowyn), First Form Latin (Memoria Press)

Typing:  on-line

Fine Arts (art, music, poetry):  MODG

Spelling:  Sequential Spelling, All About Spelling and Phonetic Speller Cards

Reading:  Faith & Freedom (and lots of books) & Starting Comprehension, Seton

Phonics and Vocabulary:  Explode the Code, Little Angel Readers/workbooks, Wordly Wise

VBS Prep

 Next week starts VBS.  Generally I'm greatly opposed to such things as generally it's silly and watered down goofiness that makes me crazy.  But last year I was tantalized by the topic of Jerusalem.  And you know what? It was cute and fun so we signed on again to help out.  The idea, since our church is Catholic, has been to take a look at it from a Catholic perspective.

This year we are "going to Egypt" so the girls were working on the Egpytian headdresses.

It only took a couple weeks to finally find our swimming tube after a storm blew it away.
