This week we also made Christmas gifts (to be shared after Christmas). I am officially *done* with my Christmas shopping! I few more gifts will trickle in and more wrapping.
Kili was evaluated for dyslexia and he's got a pretty severe case of it. I wish I had learned what I know now some 20 years ago!! But alas, God has His timing.... and I have mine. 😂 I made the alphabet so that all the books he is doing match. I copied the cards from Foundation which give him the key words. He doesn't actually use letters now for reading but using them in his handwriting. Handwriting without Tears is excellent for dyslexics (and anyone). I used it for years and years but then loved the pictures in the Catholic handwriting programs. And now, with a dyslexic, I'm back to the one that really worked the best. HA! He also does "Heggerty" which covers key skills that any child needs to know but it is key for dyslexics and their language processing skills are very different from the ordinary child who processes these skills. The skills include rhyming, onset sounds (first sounds), building compound words, adding and deleting words in a compound word, finals sounds, and a couple of fun things like the abc song and little poems (nursery rhymes or other). He is whipping through this book doing double work. Interestingly, there is a very high number of dyslexics.
We are going with Barton for dyslexia but he didn't pass the necessary components in the screening test so Susan Barton recommended Foundation in Sounds. So we are working on that. It's very simple, yet for a dyslexic it can be quite the work out. They use only sight (see the picture word and watch the correct formation of the mouth), hearing (the sounds and a combination of sounds) and touch (pointing to the pictures or cubes). There are no letters yet as the necessary processing skills need to be mastered. It amazes me with what difficulty a dyslexic can struggle with the skills that ordinary readers just know. It's a very fascinating process. I'm going through it very tediously (watching every tutoring video and reading every tutor aid I am given with these great programs). I want to be ready to help other children in the future.
We went to Sky Zone trampoline park with some cousins for a birthday. It was great fun!

Opening day of the "official" hunting season for deer is officially here. Eleanor is the lone girl who goes out hunting.
