World Championship - Phoenix AZ

World Title!
First in the World in ATA combat women ages 18-29

My cute grandbaby FG1

The kids went to our TKD school's summer picnic. Our boys and a friend won first in tug-of-war... again :)

Prepping for worlds.

Rosie, Merry, and I took a bust to Chicago O'Hare Airport to head out to Phoenix to the world championships for Taekdwondo.

Not much space between vehicles *eek*

At the airport - everyone go their private sink complete with soap, water, and hand dryer.

Dinosaur complete with mask (rolling eyes)

In case you ever wondered who and how the window on the escalator are cleaned.

Moving walkway.

Seriously comical

This is a museum?

Mist - some say it is water, some say it is disinfectant
It was HOT in Phoenix, average of 105.

View of the sunrise out our 11th floor hotel room.

View out the elevator. Elevator also had social distancing and self-cleaning buttons. We are a bit dubious on how elevator buttons clean by themselves...

The venue for the tournament of champions and world championship was huge. something like 56 rings in one room.

Thursday, they competed in their forms. Rosie came in 5th, Merry came in 4th in their divisions.

Earlier that day we watched the owner of our TKD school and his wife rank testing for 6th degree black belt, and the co-owner rank testing for his 5th degree black belt. They were amazing!

We enjoyed a little time in the pool watching airplanes going by.

We went out to eat with some of our school's members and parents. It was a great evening!

This beautiful church was just around the corner from the convention center and our hotel. It was closed at this time.

Pray for this homeless man.

I cannot say I like Phoenix much, at least not the little bit we saw. We had most our meals from the  grocery store a bunch of blocks away.

Friday they competed in combat and sparring.

Rosie came in FIRST in the world in women's 18-29 in combat. 2 of her matches she won 11-2. The other 2 matches were also good wins. She was calm cool collected and POW.
Merry came in THIRD in the world in sparring in the very, very tough ring of 15-17 year old boys.

World champs get to pick out a special t-shirt.

When all was said and done we switched our flight to an earlier one (so we wouldn't need to take the red-eye). We had time to stop in the beautiful little church. And happened in on a funeral procession. Eternal rest grant unto him/her O Lord....

The statues were absolutely gorgeous!

As were the stained glass windows!

Although we took the train and tram on our way to the tournament from the airport, we were tired and opted for an Uber on the ride back to the airport. If it wasn't providential.... check out the rosary hanging from the window. He was a great driver and we got to talk a little Faith on the way.

We arrived in Chicago and had a little wait for the bus. We got into Madison, picked up, and arrived home at 1:30 am.... my 2nd grandbaby (SB1) was born at 2:57 am.... 9 am we decided to drive up to Galadriel and Celeborn's to surprise Galadriel for her birthday......
