Sunset time... again

Spider webbint

Whatever kind of fish this is was biting swimmers' feet. It was thrown back and went right back to it's favorite place at the end of the dock.

There is a raft under those kids

Cute baby duckies

My sisters and I after breakfast at the Sherwood Inn

The Sherwood Inn was started in 1807!

I learned there was a passenger train that went through Skaneateles. Article HERE
There was also a great fire in Skaneateles on September 28, 1835, destroying 13 buildings!

"Lakeside shops and residences and a School house that comprised the core of the village. The businesses destroyed were: Parsons’ Cabinet Shop; John Legg’s Carriage Manufactory; M. A. Kinney’s Columbian Printing Office; Nathaniel C. Miller’s Saddlery Shop; W. M. Beauchamp’s Book Store & Bindery; Dr. Samuel Porter’s office; Noadiah Kellogg’s Saddlery Shop; General Stores of B. S. Wolcott & Co., Charles Pardee, Gibbs & Burnett, James G. Porter, Phares Gould, Nelson Hawley & Co., and Richard Talcott & Co."

Cause of Fire:
Started in the cabinet shop of Mr. Parsons. Woods shaving ignited by either a spark from the saw or ash from the stove.

The Fire of 1952

On Friday, March 21, 1952, A fire destroyed the then Small high school.

Despite the efforts of more than 150 firefighters from six fire companies — Skaneateles, Mottville, Elbridge, Jordan, Marcellus and Borodino — a fire destroyed the high school that day and momentarily changed the school district's educational landscape.

Another fun tidbit of information was that water was drained from Skaneateles Lake into the Erie canal.
Skaneateles Lake is a really interesting Lake. It is only 1 mile wide at it's widest point and only in one smallish area, and is 22ish miles long. Hence the Indian word "Skaneateles" means "long lake". The Lake  goes down to 250 feet deep, so big, rapid drop offs.  It is spring fed so the water is cleaner than most.

The boys went fishing early in the morning
