Bilbo and I took a little field trip down to Pepin where Laura Ingalls live in "Little house in the Big Woods". The foliage was beautiful! I don't have many if any pictures that show it since I was driving.
We stopped at a few of the historical markers. Some interesting history.
Lake Pepin, a whole lot bigger than I knew!
First we stopped at the museum which had "time appropriate" items from when Laura would have lived in Pepin. Some items were from her relatives or friends. Others were just simple donations.
China shepherdess
In the cute gift shop they even had handmade Laura Ingalls dresses.
A replica of what the Little House in the Big Woods would have resembled.
1899 "modern" school house. A couple bought the old church and schoolhouse (and live in the basement of the church). They have been collecting items to preserve the history of the time era. There were 40 (yes 40!) one room schoolhouses in the area! Many are still there and converted to pretty and unique homes. We passed many during our travels. The woman is very sweet and more than willing to show the schoolhouse if you catch them outside! (a map located at the museum is how we found out about it)
