I have always had a special fondness for St. Blaise. Of course my childhood fondness sprung up from the interesting custom of blessing throats on this day. He was also a martyr and I just love the stories of the martyrs. Since we have been bombarded with plagues of sickness this cold 'n flu season, I'm particularly anxious to get our throats blessed! I always seem to get a sore throat in January so this year I'm hoping I get the 12 month blessing rather than the 11 month blessing (haha) Of course getting a sore throat before the blessing gives us a greater appreciation for the beautiful little blessings of the Church.
