Baking Challenge Week 12

This week (after much scrambling to find the whisk attatchment for the mixer, it was of course in the tupperware cupboard.... in case you expected it to be with the mixer and mixing bowl...) we made 2 recipes for Lady Modesty's Baking Challenge.

The Kiss Cake because it had strawberries in the final product and I love strawberries. And with St. Valentine's Day approaching it just seemed appropriate. If you like meringue this is the cake for you. There are 3 layers of meringue layered with whipped cream and strawberries. It is very sweet meringue but anything with strawberries is delicious! I would rate this at a 5. The only down fall which has nothing to do with the taste of this is that I cannot fathom how you actually cut this so that you set a nice plate before a guest!! I think it would be nicer if it was baked in tiny little meringues with a dollop of whipped cream and strawberries.

The Phoebe Jane's Angel Food Cake because I love Angel Food Cake. This was delicious and turned out a really nice texture for an Angel Food cake. I think it would be perfect topped with whipped cream and strawberries... or one of those sticky gooey satiny-marshmallowy frostings. I have said before I am not a frosting lover. However, I do like that sticky frosting. I had a very bad experience when I was a child and tried to make one of those beautiful "white moutain" frostings and it turned out more like the rocky mountains, dark brown and hard as a rock. I have never forgiven frosting since. I rate this cake as a 5.

  1. Yum! The strawberry cake looks so delicious! Your angel food cake is also what I thought mine would look like nice and fluffy :) I did something wrong. I think I baked it at too high of a temp, not sure if I got the right flour and may have not mixed it long enough. My first angel food though so it was not too bad :)
